A treat for tiny toes – Clarks pram shoes reviewed!

There’s nothing like a pair of gorgeous new shoes to set a girl’s pulse racing, and once you become a mummy, a whole new world of shoe shopping suddenly opens up!  When Bubs was little we experimented with a whole range of teeny tiny footwear; some designed to keep his tootsies warm but most designed just to make him look even cuter, if that were possible.  So you can imagine my delight when, with baby number two imminent, I discovered that Clarks were launching their very own range of adorable pram shoes that not only look gorgeous, but also come with that Clarks guarantee of quality and comfort for miniature feet that we mums know we can trust.  And imagine my further delight when the lovely folks at Clarks offered to send me a pair for review!

The shoes arrived just a few days later and I can confirm that it was love at first sight – they come in beautiful gift packaging and the 0-3 months size I had requested certainly did not disappoint when it came to ‘awww’ factor – suffice to say I had completely forgotten how tiny a baby’s feet are!  Made from the softest buttery leather, the shoes have external seams for maximum comfort and are designed to mould quickly to the shape of your baby’s foot.  The shape of the shoe’s heel has been specially designed to cradle baby’s foot without causing any pressure and the leather soles are designed for underfoot protection and warmth.  Of course, normal pram shoes are notorious for falling off (I bet every supermarket in the land has a cupboard full of stray baby footwear!) but Clarks have got that covered as well, in the form of a handy toggle that is easily adjusted for a snug fit that won’t catch on delicate clothing like velcro can.  Having no actual baby on which to test the product means I can’t say with authority whether or not the shoes are easy to put on and take off, and if I’m completely honest I would have to say that there is perhaps not as much stretch in the elasticated cuff as I would like, especially considering that the shoes have a toggle fastening that would compensate for the extra stretch.  They do, however, have a handy loop which would make them simple to ease over baby’s heel and it might well be that a little elastic goes a long way – I’ll have to wait two weeks or so and let you all know then!

The shoes retail at a reasonable £18.99 and come in three sizes covering the period from birth until 9 months, all with built in growing room for mum’s peace of mind.  There are two boys’ and two girls’styles – all impossibly cute – although I must concede that it would have been nice to be able to order a unisex style since we don’t yet know the sex of our baby.  That said, I asked for a pink pair ;)   Time will tell whether or not my hunch is right but for the meantime I will finish by saying that this is an excellent product – beautifully designed using quality materials and nicely packaged, making them ideal as a gift.  They are not only practical for everyday use, but are also so lovely that mums are sure to treasure them long after those tiny toes have outgrown them.

About Claire

Hello! I’m Claire and welcome to MumUnplugged! I started this blog in 2008 following the birth of my son; I was bored on maternity leave from my job as a magazine editor, and besides feeling a pathological urge to just write something, I wanted to put my own experiences as a first time mum out there for others to share. I’m just a normal mum like any other – I have good days and bad days, days when I feel confident in my ability to raise this little human I created and others when I wonder why on earth I ever thought I could handle it! The most important thing I’ve learned from becoming a mum is that there’s nothing like advice from other mums who’ve been in your shoes – and I hope that by reading my experiences and those of others, visitors to MumUnplugged will find inspiration, advice and support for their journey through motherhood. Through my career in publishing I’ve also developed a passion for trend-spotting and tracking down the latest products so you’ll also find lots of news, reviews, fashion, topical features and much more. I really hope you enjoy the site – don’t forget to check out our forums (coming soon!) and keep your eyes peeled for great competitions and giveaways. If there’s anything you’d like to see on MumUnplugged then I’d love to hear from you – email mumunplugged@googlemail.com, follow me on Twitter, check out the Facebook page - or just leave me a comment!
