Here’s the craic…

So I thought I should do a quick post for you, my very small band of loyal readers, to let you know that there are going to be a few changes around here over the coming weeks. You see it turns out my theory that being half decent at something, and being completely passionate about doing it, is enough to allow one to make a career out of that thing, is kind of bollocks. It turns out that being good at your job and really loving your job isn’t enough to ensure that you get to stay in that job, especially in the current financial climate. It’s not necessarily anybody’s fault, its just one of those things, but nevertheless it means that I find myself on the brink of a very scary and also exciting time in my life and career.

So, being as I am, jobless, and what with this nagging little voice in my head telling me that I *need* to write, I have made a momentous decision. I have decided that with the help of my fabulously talented ickle brother I am going to try and turn this random, often rambling blog into an actual business. Yep, you read that right, I am going to start my own business. Eek.

My aim is to turn mumunplugged into a useful, informative, fun resource for mums in Northern Ireland and maybe even further afield if things go well. Over the next wee while you will notice more editorial-type content appearing here and before long I’ll be (well, when I say I, I mean ickle bro who is currently chained to his computer) uploading a brand spanking new design that will allow visitors to find what thep1010014y’re looking for quickly and easily. My urge right now is to spill my guts on here like I always do and tell you all my ideas but just in case some of you are idea-stealing fiends I’ll keep it under wraps for now. If there are those of you who, for some godforsaken reason, enjoy my bletherings about life and Bubs and motherhood in general and couldn’t care less about the latest kids’ fashion or the myriad functions of some futuristic-looking buggy, fear not. The blog will be staying, and before long it will have its own neat little compartment on the site. For now, though, you’re just gonna have to wade through everything I write to get your fix of the juicy stuff!

Perhaps I’m mad and the whole thing will go belly up but for now I am excited about having a new challenge and I really hope you all come along for the ride. If any of you feel like spreading the word and getting your mummy friends to check out the site, Bubs and I will be eternally grateful. Believe me, you don’t wanna make this kid mad…

About Claire

Hello! I’m Claire and welcome to MumUnplugged! I started this blog in 2008 following the birth of my son; I was bored on maternity leave from my job as a magazine editor, and besides feeling a pathological urge to just write something, I wanted to put my own experiences as a first time mum out there for others to share. I’m just a normal mum like any other – I have good days and bad days, days when I feel confident in my ability to raise this little human I created and others when I wonder why on earth I ever thought I could handle it! The most important thing I’ve learned from becoming a mum is that there’s nothing like advice from other mums who’ve been in your shoes – and I hope that by reading my experiences and those of others, visitors to MumUnplugged will find inspiration, advice and support for their journey through motherhood. Through my career in publishing I’ve also developed a passion for trend-spotting and tracking down the latest products so you’ll also find lots of news, reviews, fashion, topical features and much more. I really hope you enjoy the site – don’t forget to check out our forums (coming soon!) and keep your eyes peeled for great competitions and giveaways. If there’s anything you’d like to see on MumUnplugged then I’d love to hear from you – email mumunplugged@googlemail.com, follow me on Twitter, check out the Facebook page - or just leave me a comment!
