all wrapped up

So that’s it; Bubs’ much-anticipated first Christmas has come and gone a bit like all the Christmases before it, in a blur. Not of alcohol and revelling, though, more of sleep deprivation, endless visiting of relatives and of course, far too much food (me not him). For the first time ever Santa visited our humble abode and between him and our two families, come 11am on Christmas morning it looked as though our living room had given birth to a mini branch of Toys R Us.
Poor Bubs was rather bewildered by the whole thing to be honest, I could tell he hadn’t a clue why we kept presenting him with boxes covered in paper, encouraging him to rip said paper off and then just as he caught sight of the brightly coloured delights inside, taking it away again and offering him yet another box. By the time we got to my mum’s for lunch he was distinctly unimpressed with the whole gift-opening thing and had gone into ‘new toy overload’, preferring to eat the wrapping paper or my mobile phone instead. Mind you, it has to be said that he got the easy job because getting the wrapping paper off the gifts is one thing – getting them out of the bloody packaging is quite another. Somebody should tell that David Blaine guy to get in touch with the people at VTech if he wants a real challenge!
Bubs did, however, enjoy his very first Christmas dinner and was aided in the eating of it by a very special gift from Santa – one of his front teeth! They have been on the way for a couple of weeks and I kept joking that Santa would bring them but you could have knocked me down with a feather when I looked in his mouth on Christmas morning and saw that gleam of white. With any luck the arrival of 2009 will bring us its partner and give me back my cheerful, sleeping through baby! Anyway that’s enough rambling from me for now, hope you have a happy New Year!

About Claire

Hello! I’m Claire and welcome to MumUnplugged! I started this blog in 2008 following the birth of my son; I was bored on maternity leave from my job as a magazine editor, and besides feeling a pathological urge to just write something, I wanted to put my own experiences as a first time mum out there for others to share. I’m just a normal mum like any other – I have good days and bad days, days when I feel confident in my ability to raise this little human I created and others when I wonder why on earth I ever thought I could handle it! The most important thing I’ve learned from becoming a mum is that there’s nothing like advice from other mums who’ve been in your shoes – and I hope that by reading my experiences and those of others, visitors to MumUnplugged will find inspiration, advice and support for their journey through motherhood. Through my career in publishing I’ve also developed a passion for trend-spotting and tracking down the latest products so you’ll also find lots of news, reviews, fashion, topical features and much more. I really hope you enjoy the site – don’t forget to check out our forums (coming soon!) and keep your eyes peeled for great competitions and giveaways. If there’s anything you’d like to see on MumUnplugged then I’d love to hear from you – email mumunplugged@googlemail.com, follow me on Twitter, check out the Facebook page - or just leave me a comment!
