you better watch out, you better not cry…

You know how the song goes, don’t you? Well if it’s true I don’t think Santa will be leaving anything in my stocking this year! Weirdly although I am super excited about our first Christmas as a family of three, I keep getting blindsided by my emotions and find myself tearing up at all things remotely sentimental, like when I helped Bubs hang his own special Christmas decoration on the tree, when I wrote a special message in his first ever Christmas card and when he opened said Christmas card, even though he didn’t give a damn about the sentimental nonsense Mummy had written inside and was much more concerned about eating the envelope! This year has been a very special one for us and I think I can safely say that the arrival of Christmas has made me focus on how extremely lucky we are.
On a lighter note, it’s really quite cool that we are back on Santa’s ‘homes to visit’ list and although Bubs hasn’t a clue what’s going on I think his daddy is excited enough for both of them. I’m still trying to figure out a way of tactfully telling him we don’t need to leave mince pies and carrots out for Santa and the reindeer until Bubs can actually understand what they are for! I’m really looking forward to him having plenty of new toys (Bubs not Daddy) because recently he seems bored of all the ones he has, his curiosity just grows and grows and all the baby toys he has aren’t floating his boat any more. I was a bit cheeky this year and pointed most people in the direction of stuff I think he will enjoy so the New Year is going to be a shape-sorting, ring-stacking, button pushing, ball popping fest in our house!
Finally (and I am almost afraid to write this in case I jinx myself) I have gotten an early Christmas present and it’s the best one ever in my life – sleep! I’ve posted on the subject before when Bubs has had a good night or two but we are now at around 10 days of consistent sleeping through until at least 5am and I can’t tell you what a difference it makes. I can even have a couple of glasses of wine of an evening because I’m confident he won’t need feeding until the alcohol has left my system. A little thing to most people, I suppose, in the face of a festive season filled with drunken debauchery; but it’ll do for me! Happy Christmas!

About Claire

Hello! I’m Claire and welcome to MumUnplugged! I started this blog in 2008 following the birth of my son; I was bored on maternity leave from my job as a magazine editor, and besides feeling a pathological urge to just write something, I wanted to put my own experiences as a first time mum out there for others to share. I’m just a normal mum like any other – I have good days and bad days, days when I feel confident in my ability to raise this little human I created and others when I wonder why on earth I ever thought I could handle it! The most important thing I’ve learned from becoming a mum is that there’s nothing like advice from other mums who’ve been in your shoes – and I hope that by reading my experiences and those of others, visitors to MumUnplugged will find inspiration, advice and support for their journey through motherhood. Through my career in publishing I’ve also developed a passion for trend-spotting and tracking down the latest products so you’ll also find lots of news, reviews, fashion, topical features and much more. I really hope you enjoy the site – don’t forget to check out our forums (coming soon!) and keep your eyes peeled for great competitions and giveaways. If there’s anything you’d like to see on MumUnplugged then I’d love to hear from you – email mumunplugged@googlemail.com, follow me on Twitter, check out the Facebook page - or just leave me a comment!
